Orientation to Lifelong Learning

An orientation to lifelong learning encompasses the qualities of curiosity, humility, a willingness to learn new things, and the skills to pursue independent learning.

This quality has increased in importance since change has become the byword of the modern job.

In our research, employers made clear that they are not interested in employees who think that being ready for the workplace means they are finished with learning.

As one information technology educator put it: “IT is learning to learn” (IT Educator 7). And advanced manufacturing requires “utility players” who are willing to learn different functions and roles as needed.”
